Grace Gets Real: Find Your Happy and Own It

Grace Gets Real: Find Your Happy and Own It

Have you ever really disliked yourself?

Or, perhaps, you’ve even said to yourself, “I hate myself.”

Why?

Is it because you feel like you’ve failed?

Is it because you didn’t exercise today?

Or, God forbid, is it because you ate a piece of chocolate?

Here’s my advice- let it go. Let go of everything you allow into your brain that is causing you to think this way. Stop reading magazines and going on Instagram and talking to other girls about how much you hate your thighs.

You should love your thighs…

And your hair, and your teeth, and your pores, and your hands, and everything else that makes you human and amazing. If you have categorized beauty as rail-thin, long hair, and big lips, you need to reassess because there is so much more to beauty than just those things.

Anyone can be beautiful. Everyone is beautiful.

The key is finding what makes you feel good. Finding that one outfit that makes you feel amazing, finding that one thing that you could spend hours doing. Be honest with yourself in what you truly enjoy, what truly makes you who you are, and you’ll find you’ll stop comparing yourself to others. No one finds happiness in counting calories and reading juvenile magazines.

You probably don’t hate yourself…you’re probably just not seeing yourself in a flattering light. Do what you love and wear what you love, and a boost in confidence will follow.

As a wise woman once told me,

“If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.”

I hope that you continue on the path toward being enlightened and not giving a shit about what people will think. I can’t wait to see you on the other side.

Look for your happy and own it. If biology is your thing, rock it. If you love interpretive dancing, flaunt it.

Make sure you’re setting aside time to take care of yourself and do what you love.

Life is too short to waste time counting calories.
