I try to pay attention to what words float through my head the most.
I keep coming back to one: fear.
This fear, mixed with some anxiety, and some frustration, stifles me in my day-to-day ritual- I just keep coming back to it.
Everyone experiences this fear, I believe. Everyone is afraid of the next step. For me, it is college. For others, it is learning to drive, getting married, starting a new job…this fear follows us through every walk of life.
The ironic part is that I have no idea what particular thing I am afraid of! All I know is that something is changing and my natural response is to be afraid.
Maybe this is just a me thing, but I tend to run away before anything bad has even started to happen. Instead of welcoming change, I suppress it. Sometimes, though, we have to make changes in order to fulfill our need for happiness.
So, the question is, how do I conquer this fear so I can move on with my life?
Don’t think twice- just go.
One of the most important aspects of life is learning to trust our intuition. It takes time and practice, but most of us can recognize a good feeling when we experience it. Think of it like a trust exercise with yourself.
Finally, tell yourself that the anxiety you may be feeling due to a sizable change is excitement! I’m not afraid to go to college- I’m excited to start a new part of my life! Think of all the opportunities and new memories you will have.
Have you ever been fearful of a change in your life? Feel free to share your story, whether it is with me or with others.
Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.
