Easy and Inexpensive “Cup of Fall” DIY!

Happy weekend!

This morning, I went to CVS to pick up my September issue of Vogue when the fall decor display caught my eye. I noticed on the very top shelf a cute jar filled with pine cones, fake fall-colored flowers, and a festive strand of twine wrapped around the middle. Then I looked at the price tag- $12.99! I thought, no way would I buy this when I could make it myself. So, I collected some supplies and created my very own “cup of autumn” decorations!

Here is how you can make them yourself!

Supplies:

Pine cones (I used small decorative ones that I had in my house, but you can of course use real ones!)

Pine needles (I went outside and cut some sprigs off a tree!)

Clear plastic cups or jars

Twine, yarn, or ribbon

Index cards

Marker

Hole punch

Scissors

Procedure:

Fill the cup halfway with pinecones and other fall fillers (acorns, etc.)

Next, add in small sprigs of pine needles or fake flowers.

Cut your index card into fourths. Use your hole punch to create an opening for the yarn to go through. Write a cute fall-inspired message (I wrote “Happy Fall” and #PSL because I’m basic) and loop the paper through a piece of string. About nine inches is plenty, but you can always cut the excess off after you tie it. It depends on the size of your cup.

Now, tie your string around the edge of the cup, pulling it taut so it doesn’t slip. I triple-knotted mine and then cut off the excess.

And you’re done! These little cups make perfect decorations and gifts. I hope you enjoyed this DIY and make sure to send me pictures if you try it out! 🙂
