I have been thinking a lot about self-confidence the last few days. I have always wondered why gathering self-esteem is so difficult for so many of us, but I think I finally figured it out.
We live in a culture where it’s considered conceited to like yourself. “I think I’m pretty” or “I think I’m smart” sounds self-centered. Why? Of course you’re allowed to think you’re pretty and smart- you should think you’re pretty and smart! And about a million other positive adjectives, too. It’s a good thing to like yourself. It’s a good thing to believe in yourself. And self-love is so important because you need to be your own advocate. You should always be able to depend on yourself.
So go ahead, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are beautiful. It’s not a bad thing. In fact, practicing self-confidence in even the smallest ways can help you out so much in the big picture.
You have to love yourself first.
