Today I am sharing one of the most important lessons high school has taught me: be yourself. I know you’ve heard it a million times over, but I can’t explain how important those two words are to your happiness.
Everyone knows what it’s like to feel socially vulnerable in school. You might feel like in order to have certain friends, you need to change the way you dress, speak, and spend your time. Maybe even more than that. But you shouldn’t. The older you get, the more you start to appreciate what made you unique in the first place. Don’t change for someone who is trying to change you. If you want to become a better person, that’s a different type of change. But throwing your old self away and reinventing yourself comes with a price.
It might mean not fitting in, or not being sure of your place. But you’re not obligated to spend time with people who don’t accept you for who you are. Real friends might not be the picture-perfect Instagram shot, but real friends should always be there for you without holding you to expectations.
Be you. Remember what you love, what moments have made you the happiest, and don’t let drama get in the way of being yourself.
I hope this was helpful!
